If you want to ensure the best comfort and health for your dog , choosing the ideal bed carefully is an excellent start, and we are here to help you!

In this guide you will find information about:

- The types of beds available in our online store

- What characteristics of your dog should you take into account when choosing the right bed?

- What features help keep the bed clean?

As we have already mentioned, there are five most common types of dog beds: mattress, high-sided bed, kennel, couch and box. The ideal model will depend on the size and age of your dog, the climate in your region and the design as well.

1. Mattress/Cushion - Simple and comfortable for large dogs

Mattresses are the simplest and usually cheapest type of bed. Because they are large and have no side edges, they are the perfect model for accommodating dogs of all sizes, especially large dogs.

The advantage is that most beds of this type have removable and washable lining! This makes them much easier to clean.

In fact, it can be harder to find beds in other shapes for large dogs. If your dog is a large dog, such as a Labrador or German Shepherd, a mattress-style bed will be the best option.

    2. Bed with high side wings - more cozy

Beds with high sides are the most common on the market and are excellent for small and medium-sized dogs. However, there are models that are suitable for large dogs, the problem is that it is difficult for a dog of this size to stretch its legs without the sides getting in the way. If your dog is large, it is best to avoid this type of bed!

For small to medium-sized dogs, this type of bed provides security and allows them to warm up and snuggle up when they lean against the edges. In addition, some dogs like to bury their heads in the sides to avoid the light. When they are more relaxed, the edges also serve as a headrest. It is no wonder that this type of bed is a hit!

If your dog is small/medium sized, such as a Yorkshire or Cocker, this bed will be a good option.

    3. Doghouse/Igloo style bed: For Cold Regions

Doghouse or igloo-shaped beds are recommended for areas with harsher winters, or for dogs that live in places with very strong air conditioning. Because they are shaped like a doghouse, the heat is concentrated inside. Therefore, avoid using them on hot days, as your dog may feel uncomfortable in the heat.

You will hardly find large models of this type of bed, and they are generally only recommended for small dogs and cats. The downside is that these beds are made of fabric, which often cannot be washed. However, there are some models available that allow you to remove the cushion inside for washing or changing, which is already an advantage.

These beds are usually dark and soft on the inside, so they are recommended for anxious dogs, as they can “hide” when they are stressed.

If you have a Pinscher or Chihuahua dog, or a similar size, this bed is the ideal choice.

    4. Divan or box-style beds - Sophisticated, but not a good choice for older dogs or those with joint problems

Divan or box-style beds are not as common, but they are increasingly sought after on the market. These models usually have a slightly higher mattress and are quite sophisticated items that, more than beds, can be considered true decorative/design objects for your home.

The main disadvantage of these models is that, because they are quite high, very small dogs may have difficulty getting onto the bed. In addition, older dogs may end up with joint and bone problems due to the effort required to get on and off the bed. However, there are couch options.

      5. Bed for every type of climate

Dogs, just like us, need to sleep in places that are suitable for the temperature of the season. During colder seasons, it is necessary to choose beds that are more closed and warm. In summer, a bed that is wide open and made of light and breathable materials is more suitable.

On the other hand, beds lined with plush are great for winter, as they retain more heat. This way, your dog can sleep in a cozy, warm bed during the coldest nights.

There are also beds with reversible pillows , that is, with one side covered in fur for winter and the other in fabric, for warmer days.

      6. Choose models with removable or machine washable lining

Your dog's hygiene also needs to be taken care of, as does his bed. Since dogs have warm bodies, their beds can become a perfect breeding ground for fleas, ticks and bacteria. Avoid these problems and check if the bed is washable before buying it.

Some bed models can be washed completely, but in most beds only the lining is washable. Please note that there are beds that cannot be washed in the machine or at high temperatures, so be careful!

When washing the bed, remember that sensitive dogs may find strong smells strange if too much soap, fabric softener or other cleaning products are used in the wash, or worse, they may have allergic reactions. Whenever possible, choose neutral products with a mild or neutral scent.

        7. Choose Beds Appropriate for Your Dog’s Age

When choosing a bed for your dog, also consider the animal's age and habits. Older dogs spend more time lying down, so the dog's body weight needs to be evenly distributed. In this case, choose large models so that the dog can stretch out completely and still lie completely flat on the bed, without any parts sticking out.

Still on the subject of age, it is important that the bed has an appropriate height. As dogs get older, their mobility decreases. Therefore, choose beds that are low and have non-slip surfaces. This prevents the bed from sliding or tipping over during use.

Now that you know the main points to consider when choosing the ideal bed for your dog, all you have to do is make the right choice! And remember, you can always ask for our help or suggestions!
